Mariam stayed with the basket until Pharaoh's daughter found it and opened it. These rules wouldn't have even been thought of until after the exodus when God gave rules to help extend lifespans and help raise children as a community. Realizing that he would have to flee, he went to Midian (mainly in northwest Arabia). Moses was born to Amram (the dad) who was a Levite and Jochebed (the mother) who was also a Levite. Then he was ordered to remove his sandals because he was standing on holy ground. Amram and Jochebed became the parents of Aaron, Moses, and their sister, Miriam. Jocheved had the rare distinction of both entering and leaving Egypt, 1 and according to tradition she actually outlived her son Moses and entered the Holy Land (at the age of 250!).
